A digital nomad is someone who uses technology to earn a living while wandering around the planet.
They come in many styles, shapes and sizes, from photographers to bloggers, VAs to graphic designers, transcribers to speechwriters and everything in between.
While it sounds glamorous, the laptop life isn’t without a whole heap of downsides. It’s certainly not for everyone.
If you love order, structure, regularity and no surprises, maybe consider a different career path. No matter how prepared you think you are, there’s always a surprise or three around the corner.
For me, that’s one of the best things about being a digital nomad. I love the random element! For me, it’s freedom. Freedom to explore at my own pace.
I still have deadlines to meet, assignments to deliver and people to report to, but it’s all on my own terms.
If you want to be a digital nomad you need to study. That’s the best advice I can give.
Study as much as humanly possible. Watch every video, tutorial, course you can find. Read every book possible about your chosen path. Network with as many other digital nomads as you can find.
The more you know, the further you’ll go.
As for networking, it’s impossible to make too many contacts. You never know when you’ll need a specific skill, trade or service.
How do you make such contacts? Provide value for others. Offer your skills and talents freely to anyone who needs them – karma will catch up with you eventually.
